Blog: Five Things to do Outdoors with your Sweetheart

This February, take your love outside and make this Valentine’s Day special by enjoying an outdoor activity with your loved one. Being in nature allows us to connect outside of the hustle and bustle of everyday life and foster an appreciation for madre tierra. At HECHO, that’s something we love! Let us know if you enjoy an activity from our list with a comment!

1. Visit a National Park – February is a low traffic time for a lot of National Parks in the intermountain west because of the snow. This can make it an optimal time to enjoy sweeping views with minimal crowds!

2. Enjoy a picnic at the park – If you live in a snowy place, this could prove difficult, but if you’re in sunny Arizona or radiant New Mexico, it might be nice to enjoy a picnic minus the sweltering heat.

3. Paddle or bike at your nearest wildlife refuge – Find a refuge near you by visiting this link. Rent a paddle or bring your bike to explore scenic vistas, and marvel at iconic animals like bison and elk.

4. Take on the snow with a snowshoeing adventure – Rent a pair of snowshoes at your local REI or campus recreation center for a few bucks and plan your trip! Snowshoeing can be a workout, make sure to pack energizing snacks and prioritize a hearty meal afterwards.

5. Register for an outdoor education class at REI to prepare for your next outdoor adventure!
