Hispanic Conservation Leadership Council (HCLC)

In 2021, HECHO established the first-of-its-kind Hispanic Conservation Leadership Council (HCLC), a network of Hispanic elected, appointed, and community leaders who prioritize public land and water conservation and climate change mitigation in their decision-making and community advocacy efforts. HECHO is quickly growing this network and connecting Hispanic leaders to have a larger, and more effective, collective impact on decisions that impact our air, land, water, and wildlife. More than 70 members in the states of Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, and Colorado currently comprise the HCLC.

Why the HCLC?

Hispanic leaders are integral to the state and federal decision-making process of conservation decisions that impact their communities. HECHO provides a network and a platform to ensure that Hispanic leaders have a seat at the table to support conservation-friendly policies that reflect the values, traditions, and needs of Hispanic communities. Through this network, the Hispanic voice and visibility in the West is increased and Hispanic leaders are recognized for their contributions to conservation policy.

HCLC Membership

Currently, our HCLC members come from diverse communities across the West, serving a variety of communities with a variety of different conservation issues of importance to them, including wildlife conservation, water availability and quality, public lands protection and access, forest management, land-use planning, and many more. In the future, we will look to expand beyond our core states of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, and Utah. Explore the work of our members below.
