Statement: HECHO applauds the nomination of District Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson

Today, HECHO applauds the nomination of District Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to serve as a Supreme Court Justice.

Jackon, 51, has served as a federal district court judge and federal appellate court judge, and previously worked as a public defender. A bipartisan Senate has confirmed her three times already, and if confirmed for the Supreme Court, she would replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Stephen Beyer.

“Judge Jackson’s exceptional credentials make her a fitting choice to serve as our next Supreme Court Justice. She is methodical, fair, and just, and, if confirmed, she would be the first Black woman to serve on the Supreme Court. As we grapple with climate change and support record investments in green infrastructure, and as our nation’s highest court takes up cases that will determine how and whether the government can protect our air, water, and land for all Americans, we are confident that Judge Jackson's legal experience and character will uphold the values of our nation and bring balance to the highest court.”
