Statement: Celebrating AAPI Heritage Month

Much like our Indigenous ancestors in the Americas, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) have a strong connection with the land and are helping to lead the way in protecting our public lands and water.

Another similarity that HECHO and the AAPI community is our lack of representation and recognition in the environmental movement.  HECHO’s Hispanic Conservation Leadership Council (HCLC) is our way of elevating the voices of Hispanic leaders in the southwest United States so that they are heard in the halls of Congress in Washington D.C. AAPI leaders are also working to have their voices heard, as detailed in this article by Christina Choi.

HECHO is proud to celebrate AAPI Heritage Month by highlighting some of the amazing organizations and events that are helping connect the AAPI community to the outdoors and protect our planet, including:

Outdoor Asian

Asian Pacific Environmental Network

Asian Americans in Energy, The Environment and Commerce
